Goldstein Michaella

Michaella Goldstein, MD is specialist in ophthalmology and retinal diseases. She is the Head of the Retinal Vascular unit in the department of Ophthalmology, as well as the director of the Eye Research Unit (ERU) at the Tel Aviv Medical Center in Israel.

Dr. Goldstein graduated the Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University and completed the residency in ophthalmology at the department of Ophthalmology, Tel Aviv Medical Center. After a fellowship in Retinal diseases at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and upon her return to Israel in 1999 she assumed a leading position in Israel as a Retina Specialist and expert in treatment of retinal diseases. In parallel to her clinical commitments and expertise, Dr. Goldstein is well-known for her research with a special focus on neovascular age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and new treatments for retinal vascular diseases, among others.

Dr. Goldstein’s experience in conducting and managing clinical trials has been acknowledged internationally. She has been principal investigator in numerous multicenter trials for neovascular AMD, diabetic macular edema, and retinal vein occlusions. ERU is also a member of the exclusive European Vision Institute Clinical Research Network.

The results of these studies have been presented regularly at national and international scientific meetings, including the Macula Society and ARVO Annual Meetings. She has published over 60 peer reviewed articles, case reports and letters in journals such as Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science, American Journal of Ophthalmology, Eye, Retina, Graefes Archives of Ophthalmology, as well as co-authored several book-chapters. Dr. Goldstein was Chair of the Israeli Retina Society and is currently a member of various ophthalmology societies, including the Israeli Society for Vision Research, the Israeli Ophthalmological Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the American Society for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) and the Macula Society.
