Enrique Rodríguez de la Rúa Franch is an ophthalmologist currently serving as the Head of the Ophthalmology Department at Hospital Universitario Virgen Macarena, a position he has held since 2013. He is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Seville, where he has coordinated the Ophthalmology area since 2016. Additionally, he serves as the coordinator of the Rare Ocular Diseases Unit of Andalusia.
Before his current roles, he was Head of the Ophthalmology Department at Hospital Universitario Puerta del Mar in Cádiz from 2010 to 2013. From 2004 to 2010, he worked as a Specialist in Ophthalmology at the University Clinical Hospital of Valladolid and was a clinical research associate at IOBA (University of Valladolid), where he had also worked from 2000 to 2003.
In 2003-2004, Dr. Rodríguez de la Rúa completed a vitreoretinal fellowship at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, supported by a Ramón Areces Foundation scholarship. He completed his residency in Ophthalmology at Hospital Clínico Universitario de Valladolid from 1996 to 2000.
He is also a researcher in the Advanced Therapies in Retina Group in Seville, with a focus on retinal diseases. His contributions to surgical and diagnostic advancements continue to support the care and treatment of patients with complex ocular conditions.
