Paolo Lanzetta

Paolo Lanzetta is professor and chairman of ophthalmology at the University of Udine, Italy where he is also the director of the ophthalmology residency program and the President elect of the School of Medicine. He started his career at the University of Milan – San Raffaele Hospital under Prof. Rosario Brancato’s chairmanship. His main areas of activity are laser applications in ophthalmology, multimodal imaging, diagnosis and treatment of vitreous, retinal and macular diseases, and cataract surgery. Recently, he is involved in artificial intelligence research. Professor Lanzetta is actively involved in retinal clinical research and is currently an investigator in many international multicenter clinical trials on photodynamic therapy, anti-angiogenic and newer drugs and delivery systems. With surgical experience in anterior and posterior segment procedures and laser treatments, Professor Lanzetta has given over 400 presentations at national and international meetings and contributed multiple chapters to ophthalmology textbooks. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) where he served as Co-Chair of the Retina Section Program Committee, and the Macula Society. As well as publishing more than 200 original articles, Professor Lanzetta is a scientific reviewer for many journals and serves in the Editorial Board of the European Journal of Ophthalmology.
He is the founder and scientific director of IEMO -Istituto Europeo di Microchirurgia Oculare, partner of Sanoptis group, a European leader in ophthalmology services. Professor Lanzetta is the founder of the Centro di Formazione e Simulazione in Chirurgia Oculare “Maria Masieri Calvani” -CeFoSCO, a modern laboratory specifically focused on teaching of ophthalmic surgery through the use of simulator, wet- and dry-lab.
