Dr Giannopoulos is an experienced ophthalmic surgeon with special interest in cataract surgery, vitreoretinal surgery and medical retina. He has more than 4 years of experience in UK hospitals (Bristol Eye Hospital, Addenbrooke’s Hospital) and extensive subspecialty training in vitreoretinal surgery, cataract surgery and medical retina. He has 7 years’ experience as a Consultant vitreoretinal surgeon at AHEPA University Hospital, a tertiary referral center for Northen Greece and performed more than 3000 cataract operations and 1000 vitrectomies. He undertakes operations with complicated vitreortinal diseases (retinal detachment, epiretinal membrane, proliferative diabetic retinopathy, complications of cataract surgery) and all types of cataract surgery including premium intraocular lenses for correction of astigmatism and presbyopia. He has completed the Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training in September 2012 and participated as a co-investigator in many multicenter clinical trials in CRU of Bristol Eye Hospital (MERLOT, MATISSE, CRYSTAL, BRIGHTER, COMO, ALLERGAN DMO, OZDRY, ICNV). He has also participated in the Genetic and Epidemiological study of glaucoma in an isolated Greek village (Taksiarxis) with a high prevalence of glaucoma.
