I received my medical training at the University of Valencia (1990-1996), being an internal student in the Department of Physiology during the last years of my degree. I obtained a predoctoral grant (1997-1998), which culminated in achieving the degree of Doctor in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Valencia, with the highest, in November 1998. I was trained as a specialist in ophthalmology at La FE University Hospital in Valencia (1999-2003), being awarded the best resident prize (3rd). From September 2003 to January 2005, I enjoyed a postdoctoral fellowship from the Fundación-La FE University Hospital in Valencia.
I have completed my training in medical-surgical retina at the Moorfields Eye Hospital (2003) in London, at the European Vitreoretinal Training School (2005) in Bremen (Germany), and at the Mediterranean Ophthalmological Foundation (FOM) under the direction of Prof. Amparo Navea, where I work, as a medical-surgical retina specialist since June 2005. I enjoyed the SERV senior grant in 2019 as an observer of Prof. F. Kuhn, an international specialist in ocular trauma, in July 2019. Since my incorporation into the FOM, I am the teaching coordinator and tutor of the center’s residents. I have supervised six doctoral theses and have published more than 40 scientific articles in international magazines and/or books. My research activity continues to revolve around the retina, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and oxidative stress. Currently also Professor of Ophthalmology in Medicine at CEU-Cardenal Herrera University of Valencia. I have been accredited for two six-year periods of research.
