Dimitrios P. Besinis is an Ophthalmic Surgeon subspecializing in glaucoma treatment and management, complex cataract and anterior segment surgery. He was born in Athens and studied at the Medical School of Patras University. He continued his postgraduate studies at the Medical School of Athens University. He holds a M.Sc. in Molecular Medicine and he completed his Ph.D. thesis at the laboratory of Experimental Pharmacology of Athens Medical School studying the development of the visual system. He completed his training in Ophthalmology at “Evaggelismos” General Hospital, the largest hospital in Greece. After the completion of his training and after becoming Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology, he moved to the UK and worked with Professor Bloom and his team at “The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust” and “Western Eye Hospital Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust” in London where he gained experience in dealing with all types of glaucoma. Currently he has his own private practice in Nea Smyrni, Athens, Greece and he is the Glaucoma Lead of “Ipapanti Eye Clinic” which is the oldest private Eye Hospital in Greece.
