Prof. Hakan Kaymak
“Since May 2024, Prof. Kaymak has held the prestigious Gottfried O.H. Naumann Endowed Professorship for Epidemiology and Prevention of Myopia at the University of Saarland in Homburg/Saar. In this role, he focuses on developing and evaluating innovative therapeutic approaches to slow the progression of myopia, with an emphasis on evidence-based methods and clinical application. Prof. Kaymak’s work aims to contribute significantly to the global effort to manage myopia, a condition that affects millions worldwide.
Prof. Hakan Kaymak’s research on myopia treatment began with his doctoral thesis in 1996, where he focused on the usage of atropine to slow myopia progression. His work explored the potential of 0.01% atropine as a treatment, an approach that has since been extensively studied and integrated into myopia management strategies.”
In addition to his academic duties, he leads the Breyer Kaymak Klabe Macular-Retinal-Myopia Centre in Düsseldorf Oberkassel. There, he regularly consults with patients, offering specialized care for children with myopia, patients with retinal conditions, and individuals with other eye disorders. The center plays an important role in both the clinical treatment and research surrounding myopia, combining patient care with cutting-edge scientific developments.
