Professor Bora Eldem is Professor of Ophthalmology at the Opthalmology Department at Hacettepe University Medical School, Ankara, Turkey.
Prof. Eldem graduated from Hacettepe University Medical School in 1979 where he completed a medical residency program at the Ophthalmology Department in 1983. He became an associate professor in 1990 and full professor in 1996.He has worked as the chair of Hacettepe University Ophthalmology Department and Surgical Medicine Departments. He completed his fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, Retinal Diagnostic Department in London.
Prof. Eldem is Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO) and is a member of several international societies such as the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS), the European VitreoRetinal Society (EVRS) and the European Society of Retina Specialists (EURETINA). He has served as country delegate to the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO), Union Européenne Des Médecins Spécialistes (UEMS) and the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO). He is also a member of Vision Academy Steering Committee, Real-World Evidence Steering Committee and Barometer Leadership Coalition and a lecturer for ESASO.
Prof. Eldem is country coordinator and principal investigator of different randomized controlled trials related to age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular edema and retinal vein occlusion. His main fields of interest include the diagnosis and treatment of vitreo-retinal disorders, uveitis and Behçet’s disease.
